Visitor Policies and Chaperone Responsibilities

Visitor Policies

  • Museum Hours: 8:00 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (by appointment only)
  • Group size: tour group size limited to 15 including teachers and chaperones. (Additional visitors over this maximum must remain outside the Museum in the Jordan Hall of Science Galleria during the tour.)
  • Age requirements: students must be in 3rd grade or above (at least 8 years old).
  • Student tour groups must include at least one teacher or chaperone (2 if more than 9 students).

Visitor rules:
  • Visitors may not touch any of the specimens on display or in Museum collections.
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the Museum.
  • Flash photography and video cameras cannot be used inside the Museum without prior permission of the Curator.
  • Photographs cannot be published, sold, distributed, or otherwise commercially used without prior authorization.
  • Whenever possible, leave backpacks and other large bags at home or in your vehicle.
  • Please put phones on silent and refrain from answering calls during your visit.

Chaperone Responsibilities:
  • Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of their groups at all times—make sure students understand and observe the guidelines listed above.
  • Chaperones must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Stay with your assigned group throughout the Museum visit and know where group members are at all times.
  • Avoid side conversations with other students or adults when on a guided tour.
  • Attend promptly to any student causing a disruption; if necessary, remove disruptive students from the museum until the tour is complete.
  • In case a student becomes ill, attend to the needs of the student.
  • In case of severe weather or a fire emergency, follow instructions given by the museum staff.
